I am repeatedly asked what my inspiration was for writing this book. My inspiration is children and the adults they turn into.
I’ve crossed paths with dozens of people in my life that have confided in me that they were abused as a child. When I ask “What did your parents do?” The answer was too often the same, “I never told. We didn’t speak of such things. I didn’t want to get in trouble. I was embarrassed and didn’t understand what was happening.” Sound familiar?
So I said ENOUGH!! If we don’t open communication with our children and give them permission to open up to us, they won’t! There are so many people in this world that have walked around their entire life with shame, anger, and a loss of self worth because of the secrets of abuse. Silenced children. That’s just not right.
My hope is that my book will give every child a voice. Will it keep your child from getting abused? If they know they are allowed to make a fuss and say “NO!” then it just might. If abuse happens anyway, but your child is armed with the knowledge that it is not their fault and that they need to tell you right away, then you can stop it from happening again. That’s why I wrote this book.
Who am I? I am a wife to a wonderful man and a mother to 2 great boys. I am a friend and relative to many victims of abuse that gave their input into this project. I am a regular person who sees that parents need help talking to their kids. I just want to help.
